Client / Duran Cigars

Roberto P. Duran, President at Duran Cigars, and NicaTabaco’s head of operations Eradio “Pichardo” Perez turned to loved ones for inspiration on the company’s next line of cigars. Perez wanted to pay tribute and dedicate a cigar to his mother. Ana Elia Perez Vargas was born in Catalina de Guines in Cuba. Her and her family were in the tobacco growing business up until the Cuban Revolution of 1959. She taught Perez at an early age the art of categorizing tobacco leafs and processing.

In 2014, ‘Neya’ by Duran Cigars was born. For family and friends, Ana Elia is better known by her nickname ‘Neya’. So we were asked by Duran and Perez to create an identity that would capture the family’s history in tobacco growing, while also capturing Ana Elia’s young spirit.

The result was an instant classic with a Victorian style twist. Neya’s cigar band incorporates many patterns, flourishes and accents. This created a great focal point for the image of the young woman in the center, which represents Ana Elia. For the 20-count cabinet box, we went with a classic silk screen approach, which proved to be a great compliment to the elaborate cigar bands.
